Long Beach Island, New Jersey

Tens of thousands of folks make Long Beach Island their vacation destination each summer. The island itself is a 21 mile long barrier island that contains a number of distinctive communities. These include the towns of Barnegat Light, Beach Haven, Harvey Cedars, Long Beach Township, Ship Bottom, and Surf City. The island is separated from the more northerly Barnegat Peninsula, where Seaside Heights is found, by Barnegat Inlet. Long Beach Island is a world apart from the night life and relative busyness that one would expect from Seaside Heights. There are no boardwalks to be found along the beach, no amusement piers jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean, and no streets full of motels. With this lack much of what is left to enjoy is what many folks who have come to love Long Beach Island return for summer after summer – peaceful summer days with the beach just a short walk away and quiet summer evenings that are cooled by the ocean breeze. Enjoying relaxing times spent with one’s family are a big part of past and present memories for many Long Beach Island visitors. There are some family oriented places to go play, such as the Fantasy Island Amusement Park and the Thundering Surf Water Park.
